Babies should always sleep in the back. The abdominal position - long time as a recommended sleeping position selected - should never be the sleeping position of the baby. The lateral position is therefore not recommendable, because babies with increasing mobility at night could also roll on the belly and thus can come out of their own strength already into the unwanted belly position.

Previously, it was recommended to let the baby sleep in the prone position. The background was the fear that a sudden vomiting might cause food to enter the respiratory tract. The fact is, however, that due to the position of the trachea in front of the esophagus, this danger exists more when the abdomen is selected. When the baby is awake, the baby can be placed on the belly, because the neck and back muscles are enormously strengthened.

The sleeping bag is the ideal blanket for babies - and that is enough. The sleeping bag reduces the risk that the baby involuntarily covers the face. A breathing backflow is prevented by the sleeping bag as well as the overheating of the body. The sleeping bag is therefore preferable to the blanket. However, the neck circumference of the sleeping bag should be smaller than the head circumference of the child, so that the baby can not get lost in the sleeping bag while sleeping, and covers the face with it. The length of the sleeping bag should not exceed the body length of the child, by not exceeding the headline plus 15 cm. This means that the child can not wrap himself in the sleeping bag.

The child should sleep in the parents' bedroom during their first year of life, so that they can react immediately to unusual sounds. It has also been scientifically proven that the parents' respiratory sounds have a soothing effect on the child.

The bed should rather be sparingly furnished and equipped with a firm mattress, which can be little pressed in. On a pillow, the fur underlay and a wisch padding please do without. Also cuddly animals in the cot can represent a danger and the airways in an unfavorable position close. The perfect room temperature is 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. The baby bed should neither be placed directly next to the heating nor exposed to the sun during the day. At home and also in the bed, the baby does not need a cap, because otherwise the excess body heat can not escape over the head. The sleeping suit with sleeping bag is the optimal clothing for the bed.
